Italian visual artist & creative technologist specializing in 3D animation, real-time visuals, and immersive experiences. My work explores the fusion of digital aesthetics, architectural storytelling, and audiovisual experimentation, with a strong focus on generative art, glitch visuals, and audioreactive content for live concerts. My aesthetic research is based on the deconstruction of a rigid perception of reality through the alteration of the sensory decoding code.

Creating audio under various monikers since the early 2000s, durance has developed a sound focused on controlled probabilities - with a production approach that balances randomness and deterministic rules. Over the years, they have developed an obsession for crisp drums, modulated reverbs, FM synthesis and chance-based melodic progressions. The toolkit of the project involves Max/MSP, Ableton Live and a Eurorack system. durance draws inspiration from snowy mountains, finding strategies to escape the feeling of eco-anxiety and — of course — that magic moment when you frequency-modulate a sine wave with white noise.

oubys, {oubis} non linear time event; quantum condition in time / matter translation or transformation.

Oubys produces sounds that physically affect your synapses. His music explores the melody of the subconsciousness.

Oubys transports the listener to the furthest regions of the micro- and macrocosmos.

The fluctuating atmosphere of his tracks is both contemplative and meditative, inviting listeners to dive deep into a parallel state of consciousness.

Oubys’s musical research focuses on the 'shape-shifting' properties of sounds and sounds with certain different harmonic, resonant qualities. Sounds that change in phase and timbre, layers of harmonically rich sound waves that make your head tingle.

Oubys has released several albums and EPs and has played at both underground and major festivals such as Meakusma, Artefact Festival and Nuits Sonores.

His live shows are focussed on performance and improvisation.

Oubys refuses to use a laptop on stage. Hardware sequencers are beatmatched by ear and not synced with a clock. Sometimes Oubys finds himself acting as human sequencer.

In 2021 Oubys has formed Exhaust Drone with Egon Fisk, a musical project to focus on merging the substantial world and the ethereal world with a peculiar fascination for obsolete technology. They created the musical score and sounddesign for the SF short animated film called Drifter. Drifter has won the award for the best short at BIFFF, Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival in 2023.

Jens Massel (aka Senking) was born in Cologne in 1969. In the early 1990s, He gained his first musical experiences as a bass player in various punk and indie bands. In 1995, he got his hands on a very low-fi synthesizer that was able to create short samples of five seconds in length. These “mini loops” were recorded and arranged on a 4-track machine, resulting in Massel's first electronic track on tape.

Although better music production equipment was purchased, the kind of equipment he uses has never been that important to him. He rather likes to change his set-up every once in a while to find new ways to work in order to avoid repetition. Massel’s experimental work focuses on organic dynamics and achieving particular atmospheres that often remind one of listening to a soundtrack or of being miles below sea level – perhaps simultaneously. His music is inspired, of course, by other musicians, but also by movies and, most of all, by life and its very special moments.

Dense, digital psychedelia & polyrhythmic pop experiments.

Beyond the obvious drive toward survival that we share with every other organism on Earth, Homo sapiens is defined by its fixation on change / progress and a desire for increasingly precise means of expression. Technology represents a continuously evolving fulfillment of that desire. Our achievements broaden our aesthetic horizons while our aesthetic pursuits color our accomplishments, establishing an accelerating feedback loop.

    But why 3.0?

One interpretation is that it could reflect the hypothetical yet thoroughly convincing Anthropocene epoch (which, if it indeed exists, constitutes the third epoch of the Quarternary Period, which, in turn, is the third period of the Cenozoic Era, which is, in turn, the third Era of the Phanerozoic Eon). This is our extended, increasingly human moment.

Track: Capability of Being Detected

  • Bandcamp

vÄäristymä is the project of two brothers from Helsinki, Jarko Hedenius and Janne Liimatainen, who began their musical experiments with computers back in 1992. Technological limitations of the time and the clinical, flawless nature of the sound, with its dullness, seemed to create an impasse. The problem was solved when Janne started building custom analog oscillators and filters.

Nowadays, the music is made solely with Janne's self-built instruments. The sounds are far from perfect, and this is where the band's name, vÄäristymä (Distortion), comes into play. Electronic music at its most bewildering, both the process and its results are extremely experimental. The band rarely performs live. Activity continues as long as even one person enjoys the music – and, after all, there are two of us in the band.
